Junior State Championships (JSC) 2021

A big championship that occurs outside of our HB season is the Junior State Championship (JSC).

These dates and venues have also been announced by HV for 2021.

JSC is on 1-4th July 2021. Due to the renovations at the State Netball & Hockey Centre the Boys championships will be in Shepparton, whist the Girls championships will be in Bendigo.

Players will represent the South West Region (Ballarat, Warrnambool, Portland, Hamilton, Glenelg, Ararat), and play for the South West Eagles.

The South West Eagles teams are in the same age and gender categories as JCC – U13, U15 and U18

Registration to apply for trials usually occurs in late January to March, with compulsory trials set down for 18th April 2021 in Warrnambool. Then, 4 training sessions are held either in Ballarat, Hamilton or Warrnambool. We are looking at an inter-regional match between the Eagles and the Lightning.

This is a great way again, to form friendships, play hockey against the best juniors in Victoria, and have fun.

More information on JSC is available either through Hockeyvictoria.org.au, or the South West Eagles Facebook page www.facebook.com/SouthWestCountryEagles

Get Active Kids Voucher Programme 2021

News from the Victorian State Government: Victorian kids will have more opportunities to play sports with their teammates and friends as part of a $45.2 million funding boost to get kids moving and help families with the costs of community sport, as we step towards COVID Normal and look forward to the things we love. Now more than ever, Victorian kids deserve the chance to get outside and be active, and we will support up to 100,000 children to get back on the pitch, court, the nets or field – to play with their team. The $21 million Get Active Kids Voucher Program is a Victorian first and will support children to get involved in organised activities by providing $200 vouchers to help families with the cost of sports equipment, uniforms or memberships. The Get Active Kids Voucher Program is scheduled to commence in early 2021. After the year that it has been, families need less to worry about as we recover, and we don’t want the costs of sport preventing kids from getting involved. The vouchers will be launched in early 2021 with eligibility criteria and details on how to apply to be announced in the coming months.

Junior Country Championships Training Dates 2021

Held at a number of hockey venues in Melbourne, it brings together all the country regions to play off against each other to be crowned the Country Champions. Despite the trip to Melbourne being relatively short, we still like to book central accommodation, take a team bus (subject to COVID restrictions), and have a group dinner with parents, juniors, and coaches on the Saturday night. It becomes a really social weekend, where everyone is able to have fun, play hockey and enjoy the company.

JCC 2021 is on the weekend of the 15-16 May 2021. There will be no HB scheduled events that weekend, so all juniors are welcome to nominate themselves for a team.

JCC has 3 ages groups, and separate Male/Female junior teams – U13, U15 and U18.

Players will represent Hockey Ballarat in this competition.

The venues are as follows:

U13 Essendon Hockey Club

U15 Greensborough Hockey Club

U18 Footscray Hockey Club

Looking at the numbers, there is no reason we can’t have teams in EVERY age group. We have booked the pitch on the following dates and times:

U13 at 10-11am
U15 at 11-12 noon
U18 at 12 noon – 1pm

Sunday 7nd February 2021
Sunday 21st February 2021
Sunday 21st March 2021
Sunday 11th April 2021

Just turn up on the 7th February and we can work on numbers.

Currently, we have secured the services of a number of coaches, and will finalise the remainder in the next few weeks.

If we can get more than one team in any of the age groups, we can look at a second team. This may be an option in the U18 category.

Thanks,

Brenden Barber (EGC), Tim Dhillon (Blaze) and Paul Jones (Bobcats)

Volunteer Coaches Required for Hookin2Hockey

Hockey Ballarat have the Hookin2Hockey and Sixers programs starting on Fridays from 19th February 5.30pm and Saturdays from 20th February 9.00am which runs for 6 to 8 weeks. We are looking for volunteer coaches to assist in running the programs. Even if the coaches are inexperienced we will work with them, and the program for each session is organised and sent out to the coaches so each group does the same activities every week. There is also a 5 minute debrief after every session to make sure things are working or we need to change anything. Please contact Judith Yates on 0419 341 237 if interested
